Victoria · Learner Permit Test · Road rules

You pass a 40 km/h sign at roadworks, but no workers are visible. What applies?

The answer

  • 40 km/h only on weekdays
  • A voluntary guide speed
  • The normal speed limit, since no one is working
  • The 40 km/h roadworks limit — it's legally enforceable while signed Correct

Why that's the answer

Posted roadworks speed limits are legally enforceable whenever the signs are displayed, whether or not workers are visible. Fines and demerit points apply as at any other speed limit.
