Australian Capital Territory · Road Rules Knowledge Test · ACT licence rules

How many demerit points will see an ACT learner driver's licence suspended, and how does that differ once you are on your Ps?

The answer

  • Four or more as a learner; 12 or more once you hold a provisional licence
  • Four as a learner and four on a provisional licence Correct
  • Learners are exempt from demerit points until they hold a provisional licence
  • 12 or more in three years as a learner; four or more once you hold a provisional licence

Why that's the answer

Since 1 January 2020, an ACT learner licence is suspended for three months at four or more demerit points in a three-year period, and the same four-point limit carries over to your provisional licence. The 12-point threshold applies only to full licence holders (and to learner licences issued before 2020).
