You must stop at a railway crossing but there is no stop line and no stop sign. Where do you stop?

The answer

  • As close to the rails as possible for a better view
  • At least 3 metres from the nearest rail Correct
  • At least 10 metres from the nearest rail
  • Anywhere before the crossing

Why that's the answer

With no stop line or stop sign to mark the point, stop well clear of the crossing and at least three metres from the nearest rail. Trains overhang their tracks, so stopping close to the rails is not a safe place to wait.
