You approach a railway crossing where the red warning lights are flashing, but there are no boom gates. What must you do?

The answer

  • Stop only if a train is clearly visible
  • Stop and wait until the lights stop flashing and it is safe to cross Correct
  • Proceed carefully if you cannot see a train
  • Slow down and cross as quickly as possible

Why that's the answer

You must stop whenever the warning bells or flashing red lights are operating, and only drive on once they have stopped and you are certain no more trains are coming. Also never enter a crossing unless there is room to completely clear the other side.
