On a WA road, when may you legally overtake another vehicle on its left?

The answer

  • Never - overtaking on the left is always illegal
  • On a multi-lane road when it is safe, or when the vehicle ahead is signalling a right turn Correct
  • Whenever the vehicle ahead is travelling below the speed limit
  • Only on a freeway

Why that's the answer

Drive Safe allows overtaking on the left in three situations: on a multi-lane road when it is safe to do so, when the vehicle ahead is indicating a right turn (you may also pass vehicles stopped behind it), or when directed by a police officer. Outside those cases you overtake on the right.
