Western Australia · Theory Test (CTT) · Road rules

A warning sign for a sharp curve is displayed with an advisory speed sign. What should you do?

The answer

  • Ignore it unless the road is wet
  • Maintain the posted speed limit
  • Slow to the advisory speed or below, and slow further still in wet weather Correct
  • Treat the advisory speed as the new legal limit

Why that's the answer

An advisory speed is the highest speed that is safe for the hazard, not a minimum. Drive Safe phrases it as "slow down to at least the speed on the sign" — meaning slow down at least that much — and adds that in wet weather you should slow down even further. Advisory signs are yellow and advise what is safe; they do not change the legal speed limit.
