In Queensland, what does a yellow traffic light mean?

The answer

  • A warning only, with no legal effect
  • Give way but do not stop
  • The end of the green phase — speed up to clear the intersection
  • The beginning of the red phase — you must stop Correct

Why that's the answer

The handbook is emphatic: the yellow light is the beginning of the red light phase, NOT the end of the green light phase. You must stop on a yellow unless you are already so close that stopping safely is not possible.
