The road-rules test you pass before you can drive as a learner. 30 questions either way: PrepL needs 27 right overall; the in-person written test is marked in two parts, 9 of the 10 giving-way questions and 18 of the other 20.

When you can sit it: Once you have held your learner licence for six months. You then need a full year on your learner licence, the hazard perception test passed, and 100 logbook hours if you are under 25, before the practical driving test.

Queensland learners under 25 need 100 hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night. Professional lessons with a registered instructor count as 3 hours each, up to 30 hours credit (10 hours of lessons).
Queensland roads can include challenging conditions like tropical storms, kangaroos in rural areas, and busy coastal highways. Your instructor will help you prepare for local conditions.
QLD P1 drivers (red plates) have a zero alcohol limit. If you're under 25, on P1 you also can't use a phone at all while driving, can't drive high-powered vehicles, and between 11pm and 5am can carry only one passenger under 21 who isn't immediate family. P2 drivers (green plates) keep the zero alcohol limit and, if under 25, the high-powered vehicle ban, but have no passenger limit and can use a hands-free phone.
Book your practical driving test through the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) website or by visiting a customer service centre. If you're under 25, you'll need to have completed your 100 hours and held your learner licence for at least 12 months. You must also have passed the hazard perception test: TMR cancels the test, without a refund, if you turn up without it.
