What is a variable speed zone?

The answer

  • A zone where the limit changes with the weather only
  • A zone with different speed limits at different times of the day or days of the week Correct
  • A zone where you set your own safe speed
  • A zone that only applies to heavy vehicles

Why that's the answer

A variable speed zone has different limits applying at different times of the day or days of the week, shown by special signs that may be electronically controlled. They are also used on motorways, long bridges and in tunnels so the limit can be changed as conditions require.
