Queensland · PrepL Road Rules Test · Give way

There is a GIVE WAY line painted on the road but no GIVE WAY sign. What applies?

The answer

  • The line has the same meaning as the sign Correct
  • You must stop completely instead
  • The line only applies to heavy vehicles
  • Nothing — without a sign there is no rule

Why that's the answer

STOP lines and GIVE WAY lines on the road have the same meaning as STOP signs and GIVE WAY signs. They exist so the rule still stands if a sign is missing — stolen or knocked down, for example — and the same applies at railway level crossings.
