Queensland · PrepL Road Rules Test · Give way

You are making a U-turn. A vehicle approaching you is facing a STOP sign. Who gives way?

The answer

  • Whichever vehicle reaches the point first
  • Neither, if you signal clearly
  • The vehicle facing the STOP sign, because it must stop anyway
  • You must give way to it — a U-turn gives way to everything Correct

Why that's the answer

When making a U-turn you must give way to all vehicles and pedestrians, explicitly including traffic that is facing STOP or GIVE WAY signs. A U-turn has the lowest priority of any manoeuvre at an intersection.
