Queensland · PrepL Road Rules Test · Give way

Two drivers face each other at GIVE WAY signs on opposite sides of an intersection. What do they do?

The answer

  • The one on the left always goes first
  • They both give way to all other vehicles first, then apply the normal give way rules between themselves Correct
  • They must both reverse and re-approach
  • Whoever arrived first goes, regardless of the signs

Why that's the answer

When two or more drivers face each other at STOP or GIVE WAY signs they must first give way to all other vehicles, and to pedestrians, bicycle and personal mobility device riders on the road they are entering. Only then do they apply the ordinary give way rules — including giving way to the right — between themselves.
