New South Wales · Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) · Road rules

Traffic ahead is queued so that you might stop on a railway level crossing. What must you do?

The answer

  • Not enter the crossing — you must not block a level crossing Correct
  • Cross only if no train is visible
  • Cross and sound your horn
  • Cross anyway and edge forward with the queue

Why that's the answer

You must not block a level crossing. Know the length of your vehicle and wait until there is room clear on the far side before you enter, and never drive onto the crossing until you can drive fully off it.
