New South Wales · Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) · Road rules

A traffic light turns yellow as you approach. What must you do?

The answer

  • Stop, unless it's unsafe to stop suddenly Correct
  • Always continue — yellow means the same as green
  • Sound your horn and proceed
  • Speed up to get through

Why that's the answer

A yellow light means stop — you may only continue if you're so close that stopping suddenly would be dangerous. It is not a signal to accelerate through.
