Northern Territory · Driver Knowledge Test · Road rules

Your lane is ending and you must merge into the lane beside you. Who has right of way?

The answer

  • You do, because your lane is ending
  • The vehicle already in the lane you are moving into Correct
  • Whichever vehicle is travelling faster
  • The vehicle on the left in every case

Why that's the answer

When your lane ends you must give way to vehicles already in the lane you are entering. Signal early, match your speed to the traffic and merge into a gap rather than forcing your way in.
