New South Wales · Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) · Road safety

What happens to a learner or P1 driver in NSW who commits any speeding offence?

The answer

  • Points are recorded but no suspension applies until three offences
  • A warning for a first offence
  • They go over their demerit point limit and their licence is suspended Correct
  • Demerit points only apply if they are more than 10 km/h over

Why that's the answer

Learner and provisional P1 drivers will go over their demerit point limit for any speeding offence, and their licence will be suspended. The demerit threshold is far lower than for a full licence.
