New South Wales · Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) · Road safety

A driver with a full, unrestricted NSW licence may use their phone while driving for which purposes?

The answer

  • Video calls, if hands-free
  • Any purpose, as long as it is in a holder
  • Voice calls and audio, plus maps and navigation when in a holder Correct
  • Texting and calls, but not social media

Why that's the answer

A full licence holder may use Bluetooth hands-free to make or receive voice calls and play audio, and may touch a phone in a fixed holder for voice calls, audio and driver's aids such as maps. Texting, video calls, email, social media, internet and photography are all prohibited.
