New South Wales · Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) · Road safety

An oncoming vehicle's high beam dazzles you and your vision blurs. What should you do?

The answer

  • Speed up to get past them sooner
  • Flash your own high beam back at them
  • Look to the left side of the road, drive to the left of your lane, and slow down or stop out of the line of traffic Correct
  • Close your eyes briefly until they pass

Why that's the answer

Avoid looking straight at oncoming headlights. If you are dazzled, look to the left side of the road and drive to the left of your lane, then slow down or stop out of the line of traffic until your eyes recover.
